This last weekend was incredibly busy but wow what a weekend. The rally consists of members from across the county coming together to represent their clubs and compete against other clubs in stock judging, cookery, pallet challenge etc. You name it we probably do it! There were some fantastic exhibits in the indoor section and it was great to see a huge number of entries and lots of younger members taking part. A huge thank you to our sponsors, Thirsk Auction, judges, stewards, scorers and anyone else I have missed off! A huge Well Done to Farnley Estate who won the club with the most points and my old club Silsden with Skipton were 2nd. Cledales district won the cup for the most points as a district.
Some of the competitions now go onto another round. The next round is Northern Area, which is exactly what it says on the tin. Members represent Yorkshire and compete against other northern counties. I always thought it was a huge honour to represent my club and district and an even bigger achievement to represent Yorkshire so good luck to the members.
On the farm the weather has been needed but also not at the same time. We’ve had a lot of rain recently which has helped the pastures grow some more but it has also flattened the grass in the meadows. We could do with some sunshine now to lift the grass and get it mown for winter feed. We have taken grass samples of the meadow grass to test it to see what the quality is like and check the nitrogen in the grass has gone, so fingers crossed that comes back all ok.
